Article Summary

Please note that the Download and Clip It tools are not available for Viewer Plan users

The power of MetroMap is in the ability to download imagery for use in project reports, media publications, public consultation presentations, etc. The web-based platform allows you to download / export imagery using three different methods / tools explained below.

Screenshot Tool: this tool works like your typical screen grab and allows you to capture a scene with the map rotated and with all layers visible. The downloaded screen capture provides you with the capture date as well as a north-facing arrow to convey map orientation. This tool however does not provide geo-referencing (for geo-referenced downloads, use the Download/Clip It tools)

Download Tool: this tool is a quick way to download a higher resolution image (as a JPEG) that is georeferenced in web mercator projection.

Clip It Tool: this tool offers the highest resolution export with the ability to select your choice of map projection and file type. The georeferenced image shall be sent to the email selected.

How do you draw your area of interest?
Drawing the area of interest for the Download & Clip It tools is quick & easy - left mouse click for starting point as well as end point and then select “Download”. The approx. GSD shown on your screen gives you an idea of the resolution of the image that you will receive as a download.

Note:

  • The area of interest drawn must be a rectangle.
  • The resolution shall drop (increase in GSD) as you select larger areas for download, shown also by the change in the colour of the rectangle.

What are the available map projections and downloadable formats?
Map Projections – Web Mercator, GDA 94/2020, MGA 94/2020
Download Formats – JPEG, PNG, GeoTiff, Geospatial PDF, IMG
